TVEL JSC and Institute of Nuclear Physics in Tashkent, a part of the National Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, have signed a contract for supply of nuclear fuel for VVR-SM research reactor operated by the institute.
The document has signed by Natalia Nikipelova, President of TVEL JSC, and Bekhzod Yuldashev, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, in presence of the Prime Ministers of Russia and Uzbekistan, Dmitri Medvedev and Abdullah Aripov, and Aleksei Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom State Corporation.
According to the contract TVEL will supply to the customer IRT-4M six-tube fuel assemblies produced by Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant (a fabrication enterprise of TVEL Fuel Company).
VVR-SM is used for research in nuclear physics, radiation material science, activation analysis, irradiation of minerals, as well as for production of isotopes for medicine and industries. The installation had been sustainably supplied with Russian-made nuclear fuel till 2015. After a short break, caused by reorganization in the  National Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan  and clarifying the future of the reactor, TVEL and the Uzbek customer recommenced the cooperation.
“TVEL Fuel Company hails the decision of our Uzbek partners to continue the exploitation of VVR-SM reactor and renewal of our cooperation in nuclear fuel supply. Besides fulfillment of our current contract obligations, we are committed to further cooperation for the benefit of scientific and industrial potential development in Uzbekistan”, commented Natalia Nikipelova, president of TVEL JSC.
